ACCREDITATION

The centre accreditation process began in 1997 with the objective to corroborate with a better operation of the associated centres and to guarantee the veracity of the data sent to the

Latin American Register of Assisted Reproduction (RLA) .

ACCREDITATION VISITS

Any centre that wishes to associate must:
•  Agree with the Accreditation Norms ;
•  Inform to the Executive Director ( direjecutiva@redlara.com ) its interest in associate;
•  To perform at least 20 cycles of assisted reproduction per year;
•  To report its results to the RLA.

The accreditation process follow these steps:

- The centre expresses its interest in belonging to RED and reporting its data to the RLA;
- It sends data to the RLA;
- Two accreditors (generally a clinician and a biologist) chosen among the members from RED's accredited centres perform the visit. They must follow these requirements: have appropriate formation, do not have any relation with the country and centres to be visited, to agree in keeping the confidentiality of the information received for the visit and to belong to a RED's accredited centre;
- During the visit, the Centre Director and Laboratory responsible professional must be present. The Curriculum vitae will be requested. The accreditors will evaluate the standard forms, which must be filled out by the centre responsible.

During the accreditation visit, will be evaluated:
- The installations, equipments and clinical and laboratory procedures;
- The plan of control of the laboratory quality;
- The data reported to the RLA;
- The informed consents signed by the patients.

All these data remain registered in a standard form.
The accreditors reported the results directly to the Executive Director and make their comments and suggestions about the visited centres.
The decision is taken by the whole Board of Directors (B.D.) , which bases its decision on the accreditation norms , evaluation forms and comments made by the accreditors after their visit. As result, a centre can be accredited, associated or rejected. Associated centres can keep this condition up to 3 years. After this period, they must be visited again. Similarly, centres that have been rejected will be invited to apply again, once they have made the changes suggested by the B.D. and the accreditors. ( top )

EMBRYOLOGISTS ACCREDITATION

Red Latinoamericana de Reproducción Asistida, in collaboration with AAB (American Association of Bioanalysts), has developed a project to grant the iELD title (Embryo Laboratory Director) to embryologists from Latin America reproduction centres associated to RED.

REACCREDITATION

The accreditation of a centre expires after 5 years, after what it must be re-accredited. During these 5 years, if the centre changes its Director or professional responsible by the laboratory or any important change in its installations, equipments or results, the re-accreditation will also be performed. For that, the Centre will prepare a report, fill out the check lists forms and the Accreditation Committee will evaluate the necessity to perform a visit in the centre.
